CouchSurfing in Philadelphia!
So I just spent the weekend in Philadelphia for the first time as an official CouchSurfer. It was quite an experience! I had to sit through some horrible traffic getting into the city because the Phillies, 76ers, and Flyers all had home games that night. I made it to my host Andrew’s apartment sometime around 7:30, and we drove around the Center City area looking for a spot where I could leave my car overnight. Having never surfed before, and my host never having hosted before, we both weren’t sure what to expect. It went very well, and we had a chance to talk about school, travel, and cities as we walked over to Chinatown to meet up with some of the other Baltimore and Philly CouchSurfers. We had a very good meal at the Vietnam Palace, though I wasn’t much of a fan of the frog’s legs. :/
The next day I drove across to New Jersey to meet up with my friend Joe, and after breakfast came back over to Philly to check out Independence Hall and to meet up with the other two Baltimore CouchSurfers. We had coffee and went over to the Liberty Bell, then we headed down to South Street for some real food and drinks. On the way, we stopped at a pawn shop and Joe got a nice acoustic guitar for a good price. After that, Joe and I headed back to Jersey for a bit, then had cheese steaks at Tony Luke’s. Then we were off to the North Star Bar to see one of the host’s band perform. We were there until around 2am. Joe ended up crashing at Andrew’s place, and in the morning, we said goodbye to our gracious host, got some coffee in Rittenhouse Square, and parted ways.
Now I’m starting to think about where to go next. Maybe New York City for MoCCA?
